Dublin, VA –Christiansburg Delegate Dave Nutter was recognized recently by New River Community College President Jack Lewis during a college ceremony for his support for the college and its mission.

President Jack Lewis thanked Nutter for his work on several issues confronting the college, including the restoration of funding for its Montgomery County campus located at New River Valley Mall. Funding for the mall location was originally cut from the 2008 budget, but Delegate Nutter worked to have it restored.

President Lewis presented Nutter with a special plaque that thank him for “his leadership in helping NRCC meet the education and training needs of the citizens of the New River Valley.”

President Lewis praised Nutter for his efforts restore those funds, thus keeping the Montgomery campus site open.  Lewis said that through Delegate Nutter’s efforts, 1400 students are now being given an opportunity to continue their education at the Montgomery County campus site.

President Lewis praised the staff and faculty for their efforts to meet the needs of more and more students even as state funding declines.

“Virginia’s Community Colleges helped me and tens of thousands of other Virginia turn their life around,” said Delegate Nutter.  “Virginians can be justifiably proud of the value our community colleges provide for the tax dollars we spend.

“If you look back at the last 40 years, the community college system has done more to transform the Commonwealth more than any other single event.  It has opened the door of educational opportunity to every citizen in every corner of Virginia,” said Delegate Nutter.
