CHRISTIANSBURG, VA -- Delegate Dave Nutter’s campaign for re-election has been endorsed by the teachers of the Virginia Education Association. “I am deeply honored by the support I have received from the women and men who give their time and talent to teach our children,” said Nutter, a Christiansburg Republican. “During times of economic challenge it is important to remember the fundamentals and education is the fundamental that connects economic growth and prosperity for the entire region. Whether it is capitalizing on the region’s nanotechnology expertise or the explosion in biomedical research potential, education is the crucial element for the future of the entire region,” said Nutter. “Delegate Nutter helped sponsor legislation to require elementary school teachers to have 30 minutes of planning time,” said VEA regional director Marshall Leitch. VEA President Kitty Boitnott praised Delegate Nutter for his leadership in preventing permanent reductions in public education funding in the state’s funding formula. “Every candidate claims to support public education, but Dave Nutter has lived up to his promise,” said Boitnott. “Dave Nutter is a statesman who has shown his willingness to lead wisely without narrow partisanship. He has been a friend of public education.” Delegate Nutter was named Legislator of the Year in 2007 by the state association for Career and Technical Education teachers for his work to help promote career and technical education. Through his efforts Virginia has implemented a new Career and Technical Education Diploma that takes effect this academic year. Dave Nutter is serving his fourth term as a member of the Virginia House of Delegates. First elected in 2001, he serves on the Committee on Health, Welfare and Institutions; Committee on Militia, Police and Public Safety; and the Committee on Science and Technology. In 2006 he was also appointed to the Joint Commission on Health Care, a joint committee composed of members of the House and Senate that looks at long term issues confronting health policy. |
